The British International School of Tunis proudly welcomed pupils, parents, staff, partners and guests to its International Day – Discover the World at BIST, a vibrant celebration of cultural diversity, global citizenship and community spirit.
Throughout the day, our campus was transformed into a colourful international village, where visitors had the opportunity to experience traditions, music, cuisine and customs from around the world. The event reflected one of BIST’s core beliefs: that learning extends far beyond the classroom and that embracing different cultures enriches every child’s educational journey.
The celebrations began with a lively Sidi Mansour Carnival, where pupils proudly paraded in their national and traditional dress while carrying the flags of their respective countries. This symbolic opening set the tone for a day dedicated to inclusion, respect and cultural appreciation.
Visitors then enjoyed an exciting programme of performances featuring music, dance and artistic showcases prepared by our talented pupils, alongside performances by invited external artists. Every performance highlighted the richness of different cultures while demonstrating the confidence, creativity and teamwork developed by our pupils throughout the year.
One of the event’s highlights was the International Food Village, where families explored flavours from around the world. From traditional Tunisian specialities to international cuisine, the food stands provided an authentic culinary journey that encouraged cultural exchange and conversation among visitors.
The day also featured a wide range of interactive workshops for both children and adults. Creative activities, robotics, chess, jewellery making and other hands-on experiences allowed participants to learn new skills while enjoying quality family time.
Beyond the performances and workshops, the International Cultural Fair welcomed talented artisans and entrepreneurs who showcased handmade crafts, traditional products and cultural creations. Their presence added another dimension to the event by supporting local craftsmanship and celebrating cultural heritage.
Entertainment continued throughout the day with the popular Wheel of Fortune, karaoke sessions and numerous family-friendly activities, creating an atmosphere filled with excitement and anticipation. Thanks to the generosity of our sponsors, many visitors also had the opportunity to win fantastic prizes, including flight tickets, hotel stays, beauty vouchers, shopping vouchers, premium sports memberships and many other gifts.
International Day also demonstrated the strength of collaboration within the BIST community. The success of the event was made possible through the dedication of our pupils, teaching staff, administrative teams, parents, volunteers, external partners and sponsors, all of whom contributed to creating a welcoming and memorable experience for everyone involved.
At BIST, we believe that international education is about more than academic excellence. It is about developing globally minded young people who appreciate diversity, respect different perspectives and confidently engage with the world around them. Events such as International Day bring these values to life, allowing our pupils to experience global learning in a meaningful, interactive and joyful way.
