Follow a few easy steps to begin your journey at BIST.

What kind of entry assessment do younger children (ages 3 to 7) take?

Children aged 3 to 7 (Early Years & early Primary) attend one or more taster days at BIST. These are informal classroom visits where teachers observe social interaction, learning style, and communication in a natural setting — no testing involved.

Yes. Starting from age 7, students take the CAT4 cognitive abilities test. This gives insight into their learning potential and helps with class placement. Additional subject or language assessments may also be required depending on their background.

Absolutely. For entry into Years 7–13, students complete the CAT4, submit their past two years of school reports, and may have to sit subject-specific or English tests. Students entering Year 11 or Sixth Form also attend an interview with the Secondary Principal, especially if applying for IGCSE or A-Levels.

Children applying to Nursery, Reception, and Years 1–2 (ages 3–7) are not formally tested. Instead, they join regular classes for a day or two, allowing teachers to assess their development through play, interaction, and guided activities.
